First Night Morris will endeavor to give 2022 a happy launch, with a 30th anniversary New Year’s Eve of family friendly entertainment, available in-person and online.
And for those longing to savor more Yuletide cheer, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey’s splendid production of Dylan Thomas’ A Child’s Christmas in Wales continues through Sunday.

Almost certainly, you will recognize someone from your family in Dylan Thomas’ A Child’s Christmas in Wales at The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison. Peopled with eccentrics and blowhards, sexy aunts and cloying cousins, political uncles and poetlcal parents, this holiday gathering combines comic Yule misadventures with a nostalgic warmth that feels especially comforting after our long pandemic darkness. Although not a musical, strictly speaking, the production abounds with charming songs, delivered with brio by a superb cast. Showtime: 8 pm. Tickets: $45. First Night Morris County 2022 celebrates its 30th anniversary with something for everyone: More than 50 live performances in an array of genres, running from 5:30 pm almost until midnight; livestreams of Dinoman, the Ben Rosenblum Trio, Rio Clemente and the Matt O’Ree Band, starting at 6:30 pm; a film festival with live screenings starting at 6 pm, and 40 on-demand movies through Jan. 3, 2022. If you love political theater… the annual reorganization of the Morristown council is set for noon at the Thomas Jefferson School. Admission: Free.

The New Jersey Festival Orchestra presents Steppin’ Back Out 2022 at 2:30 pm in the Fellowship Cultural Arts Center in Basking Ridge. Maestro David Wroe presents Broadway soloists Paige Faure (Cinderella, Miss Saigon), Marissa McGowan (Kiss Me Kate, Les Mis), James Moye (Aladdin, Dear Evan Hansen) and dancers from Dance Theatre of Harlem, for favorites from America’s Great Songbook. The Morris Winter Farmers Market is back for a ninth season, at a new venue: Convent Station in Morris Township. It’s open from 9:30 am to 1 pm each Sunday through March 27, 2022. More vendors, more space, and more free parking, promises sponsor Grow It Green Morristown.
