On Saturday, parishioners at Assumption Church in Morristown gathered to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis and the Blessing of the Animals.
Parochial Vicar Rev. Lukasz Wnuk was the celebrant. Also in attendance was Pastor Rev. Msgr. John Hart, as well as beloved cats, dogs, guinea pigs, geckos, and fish.
Gathered by the Statue of St. Francis, Fr. Lukasz led those gathered in the following prayer over their pets:
“Dearest God, Heavenly Father, Maker of all living creatures, we ask you to bless (name of pet), who brings so much joy into our lives. By the power of Your love, enable him(her) to live according to your plan. May we always praise You for all Your beauty in creation who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Blessed are You, God, in all Your creatures!”
This was followed by a joyful rendition of the beloved hymn, All Creatures of Our God and King.
As parishioners gathered after the Blessing of the Animals to take pictures, each individual parishioner shared about the special animal members of their family.
Especially during the past year, everyone felt deep gratitude for the wonderful pets God has given us – both in our present and past companions.
The great dogs, cats, horses, and other animals who attended our celebration in past years were remembered fondly by all.
Parishioners without pets also were welcomed and encouraged to join our celebration and meet new people in our Assumption Parish Family.
