A woman was struck by an SUV and knocked to the sidewalk, where her infant landed from her stroller, near the Morristown Green at lunchtime on Tuesday.
Police said the woman sustained a “significant injury” to her leg, while the infant was unharmed. Both were taken to Morristown Medical Center after the woman was treated at the scene, near the Blue Mercury shop, by onlookers, police, and an Atlantic Ambulance squad.
The woman had been at the corner of South Street and South Park Place, waiting to cross South Street with her daughter at 12:40 pm, when she was struck by a Buick crossover-style SUV that had collided with an 18-wheel tractor trailer, police said on Wednesday.
Both vehicles had been attempting a right turn from South Street onto South Park Place, reported Sgt. Brian LaBarre in a statement.
It appears the Buick was pulling from a parking stall on the side of the roadway–which roadway was not indicated–into the travel lane “in an area that is designed for only one lane of traffic.”
The tractor trailer made contact with the Buick, pushing it onto the corner of the sidewalk, LaBarre said.
No names were released, and the incident remains under investigation by Patrolman John Sweetman. Anyone with information is asked to call 973-538-2200.
