A cyclist was taken to Morristown Medical Center on Monday for evaluation of injuries he said he sustained after hitting a pothole on South Street, police said.

Rich Seelaus, 72, of Summit, was found in the eastbound curb lane near TD Bank at 11:50 a.m. by officers responding to a report of a downed bicyclist, said Capt. Stuart Greer.

Seelaus told police he hit a pothole, lost control, and was thrown from his bike, Greer said. Complaining of pain in his shoulder, ribs, and head, the cyclist was transported to the hospital by Atlantic Ambulance emergency medical technicians.

Police placed cones around the pothole and contacted the state Department of Transportation, Greer said.  South Street is a state road.

  1. I find it much easier to know where an event occurs when instead of just a number, a nearby by business or historic site is named.

  2. Joe Citizen, you sound pretty dang upset. I bet your keyboard took a real beating when you banged that out. Ouch!
Evidently you have the time and desire to memorize the locations and names of every business on South Street. I am impressed.
Dude, I learned long ago to not get into a war of wits with an unarmed adversary and I am not starting now.

  3. The bottom of Speedwell Ave and Cory Rd is and has been a disaster for over a decade.

The mayor should be focused less on political endorsements from the Govenor and other state officials and more on pushing Trenton to be accountable for repairing their roads that cross our town

  4. Jeff – you are such a tool!!
I’d bet that many people find the business names helpful – particularly in an instance like this. As a cyclist, or runner or pedestrian – trouble spots are much easier to remember and identify by a business name rather than a street number. Oh, I better watch out for that pothole in front of 217 South Street. Is the street number even marked and visible from the street?
    Kevin – you’re doing a GREAT job!!

  5. I hope he recovers quickly and was wearing a helmet. Kind of odd how The Green uses business names instead of street addresses. Very odd.

  6. When are they planning on paving all these roads around town? They are terrible and in dire need. I know Washington/South St needs the water project to be done first, but the rest of the roads in this town are awful
