MORRISTOWN, NJ – MARCH 23, 2021– More Morris area children will be able to enjoy a summer of fun and learning thanks to a generous donation from The Presbyterian Church in Morristown (PCM). On Tuesday, March 16, members of PCM presented a check for $70,687 to the Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) for student scholarships to the Morris School District Community School’s Summer Plus Program and Summer Music Academy. As part of PCM’s annual stewardship campaign, members were asked to make an additional gift to support PCM’s commitment to helping children in the greater Morristown community.

“The Presbyterian Church in Morristown is thrilled to support the Summer Plus and Summer Music Academy programs through the Morris Educational Foundation,” said Walt Fleischer, Stewardship Committee Chair. “As part of our annual stewardship campaign this year, we especially recognized the importance of supporting children, not only our own children but also all children in our greater Morristown area family. The mission of The Morris Educational Foundation, to enhance the quality of education and educational opportunities for students in the Morris School District, coincides well with our campaign theme ‘Our Children. Our Community. Our Commitment;’ and we know that the funds so generously offered by members of our congregation will be well spent in support of this great mission.”

“The Morris Educational Foundation is grateful to the Presbyterian Church in Morristown for the creation of the Summer Plus and Summer Music Academy Scholarship Program,” said Chrissie Wetherbee, Morris Educational Foundation Executive Director. “This substantial funding is invaluable at a time when so many Morris School District students crave additional academic and extracurricular opportunities due to challenges set forth by the pandemic. We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the church and its congregants, and thank everyone on behalf of the MEF and our qualifying K-8 students and families who will benefit from the scholarship for years to come.”

The Presbyterian Church has always supported community needs through funds, service, care and facilities. Among the many recipients are Homeless Solutions, Market Street Mission, Nourish NJ (Community Soup Kitchen), Cornerstone Family Programs and Neighborhood House, Operation Love, Morristown After School Program (MAP), Plaid House, Jail Chaplaincy, Jan’s Closet (Clothing Bank) and Interfaith Food Pantry.
