GREATER MORRISTOWN PPP RECIPIENTS

Our thanks to Colleen O’Dea and NJ Spotlight News for sharing this data, obtained by news organizations via the Freedom of Information Act.

You can read Colleen’s story, detailing how nearly $16 billion in PPP aid was distributed across New Jersey, and find a tool for searching recipients statewide, here.

Although touted as pandemic relief to help small businesses retain staff, about two-thirds of the money in New Jersey went to ventures with more than 25 employees, NJ Spotlight News reported.

The national rollout of this U.S. Small Business Administration program was beset by a crush of applicants, computer glitches and other problems last spring.

But PPP money has helped support nearly 1.38 million jobs, as reported by recipients, in the Garden State according to NJ Spotlight’s analysis.

Some of the largest amounts locally went to:

  • McElroy Deutsch Mulvaney & Carpenter LLP, law firm, $8.1 million
  • The Harvest Restaurant Group LLC, which includes Roots Steakhouse and the former Urban Table in Morristown; $5.6 million
  • Riker Danzig, law firm, Morristown, $4.7 million
  • Rev Health LLC, Morristown, $3.5 million
  • The Morristown-Beard School, Morris Township, $3.3 million

Greater Morristown had at least 1,408 PPP recipients, with at least 44 entities receiving more than $1 million, according to the data. Areas were identified by zip code; Greater Morristown zip codes may include some businesses from Parsippany and Harding.

Recipients include universities, houses of worship and nonprofits along with a panoply of for-profit businesses.

  1. To Deborah regarding “gerrymander-elected Senators”: all voters within a state may vote for a Senate candidate. There is only one voting district: the entire state. Therefore, gerrymandering is not applicable for Senate campaigns. On the other hand, for the House of Representatives, districts are often gerrymandered. Voter suppression can happen in Senate and House elections.

  2. I was glad to hear from Norristown Animal Hospital.
If only more of that 8.1 million (Law Firm of MacElroy Duetsch)
and 4.7 million (Law Firm of Riker Danzig)
might instead have gone to other small businesses that actually serve the community –
or to our State/Local govt’s to pay first responders and ambulance services teetering on bankruptcy…
    thereby
helping our local NJ economies in a greater degree than these fat cat firms do…

we would not be so very disgusted by the current “Oh Nooooo – the Debt” hypocrisy coming from the Grifters still power in the Senate majority as a means to short change our true needs as citizens…

While we are in the enviable position of having two excellent Senators and a governor whose goal is to protect us medically and economically, we remain in the unenviable position – as a country – of remaining in the throes of gerrymander-elected Senators from other states who do not truly care about the rest of us – merely their own power.

  3. Thanks Doc, for doing the right thing. Nice to hear about a bright spot from a good person in this dark challenging year.

  4. Speaking for Morristown Animal Hospital, this loan was a god send. We nearly shut down for weeks, running a skeletal crew to handle only emergencies and illness. We send nearly all of our PPE to Morristown Medical Center to help the two legged creatures. I initially paid out of pocket to pay my 26 employees full salaries while I cut their hours to 10-15 hours or less. We were able to slowly ramp back up to near full service late summer, but it was painful. The PPP loan allowed me to keep everyone who wanted to stay on employed. It saved my small business as we learned to adapt to Covid life and blended safety with productivity. My staff are essential workers and I am proud of them and was so very grateful for the PPP loan to keep them all safe and fiscally sound. We used our loan appropriately and achieved full forgiveness because we used the PPP loan for it’s intended purpose.
