Rev. Sarah Green, associate pastor at the Presbyterian Church in Morristown, explained:

“We expect to face a tsunami of housing need here in Morris County and across New Jersey as a result of the current pandemic. Researchers expect landlord-tenant cases filed across the state to more than double. In Morris County, that would mean at least 6,000 cases, mostly seeking eviction, filed in a single year.

“We can start to get ahead of this need now by helping people understand their rights and access an attorney as well as by hearing more about the ways families are being impacted.”

Morris Area Together is part of New Jersey Together, a broad-based, non-partisan coalition of more than 50 religious congregations and non-profits in northern New Jersey.

Over the summer, the group launched a listening campaign that engaged more than 2,400 people in Morris County about the issues that matter most. The group set up a rent relief fund earlier in the pandemic, working with Cornerstone Family Services, Wind of the Spirit, and the Morris Area Interfaith Clergy Council. Find out more .
