We don’t have to imagine…no president in our country’s history has ever been chastised, denounced, ridiculed, insulted, disparaged and degraded on a scale really near the continually monstrous assaults on Obama. From the day he accepted office, in reality, even before he took office, he was exposed to phenomenal insults often in the most derisive terms. In his day, even to this day, Obama was castigated by the press and his political opponents as a “liar,” a “despot,” a “usurper,” a “thief,” a “monster,” a “perjurer,” an “ignoramus,” a “swindler,” a “tyrant,” a “fiend,” a “coward,” a “buffoon,” a “butcher,” a “pirate,” a “devil” and a “king.” He was charged with being “cunning,” “thickheaded,” “heartless,” “filthy” and “fanatical.” He was accused of behaving “like a thief in the night,” of being “the miserable tool of traitors and rebels,” and of being “adrift on a current of racial fanaticism.” He was labeled by his enemies “Abraham Africanus the First.” In fact, in 2016 a “patriot” in Sheridan, Indiana, Don Christy wore a prison jumpsuit and a blond wig while driving a golf cart in the annual Fourth of July parade. The cart’s roof displayed signs in support of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. On the front was the head of a stuffed animal with a sign reading “African Lion.” On the back, a doll with an Obama mask was propped in a toilet with a sign reading “Lying African.” But, of course, race had nothing to do with it. In any case, it’s called constitutionally protected activity. #FactsOverFeelings
Imagine what people would do if someone put a Halloween decoration on their lawn featuring Obama’s face with horns coming out of the head and rats coming out of the mouth. “Peaceful protests” is what would happen.
