Election 101: No voting-as-usual at the polls on Nov. 3

Most registered voters should have received ballots by now. But some of us still are asking if we can go to the polling station and pull the lever to cast our vote.

No, we cannot! Only the visually disabled and those who cannot hold a pencil are allowed to vote at the polls using special audio equipment — and definitely not in a booth.

Video: Morris County Clerk Ann Grossi explains what to expect at polling places on Election Day:

However, you can show up at the polling station with your mail-in ballot, completely filled out and sealed, and put it a Drop Box there. But why not do it sooner at a Drop Box in your area? Ballots are picked up daily and the counting already has begun.

Greater Morristown has a Drop Box on Court Street, across from the Morris County Administration and Records Building.

If you are a glutton for punishment and come to the polls on Tuesday without your mail-in ballot, you will be given a Paper Provisional ballot. You probably will have to stand in line, and your vote will be the last to be heard, after all the mail-in ballots are counted. This is being done to ensure nobody votes twice.

If you still are undeterred, be advised that there will be only one polling station open in Morristown on Election Day. It is at Town Hall, 200 South St. All others are closed.

Morris County Clerk Ann Grossi has been inundated with calls from people who do not understand the procedure.  Her video above explains it, and her website includes a list of Morris County Drop Box locations and much more.

With only a few days to go, it is strongly suggested that you either go to a Drop Box or the post office as soon as possible, to make sure your vote counts in this election. DO IT NOW!
