THURSDAY, OCT. 15, 2020:

Join the Morristown and Morris Township Library at 7 pm for its virtual Book Lovers’ Circle discussion. Attendees share great reads and new titles with one another – it’s the perfect place to hear some suggestions to spruce up your reading list.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents Shaw! Shaw! Shaw!, three-one-act plays by George Bernard Shaw, at 7 pm at its Back Yard Stage, at the Kean Theatre Factory in Florham Park. Shows runs Wednesdays-Sunday through Oct. 25, 2020; evening shows at 7 pm, plus Sunday matinees at 4 pm. Tickets start at $30. Social distancing; masks required. Call (973)408-5600.


FRIDAY, OCT. 16:

Start your day with yoga at 9:30 am. The session will be in-person and socially distanced, on the side lawn of the Morristown and Morris Township Library, weather permitting. Attendees should bring their own yoga mats. The library also offers yoga classes on Monday nights.

The Nerds perform at 6 pm and 8:30 pm inside Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts CenterLimited seating, social distancing, masks required. Tickets: $35-$50; livestream (8:30 pm) $20.  At 100 South St., 973-539-8008.

Cancelled (you know why): The Mt. Tabor Arts Collaborative and Mt. Tabor Historical Society host their third annual Mt. Tabor Ghost Walk, from 6 pm to 10 pm. Guides lead tours every 15 minutes. Tickets: $15, must be purchased in advance. Also on Saturday night.

The Folk Project welcomes singer-songwriter Carla Ulbrich and her larger-than-life, absurd humor to its Acoustic Stayaway virtual stage at 7 pm. Free.

SATURDAY, OCT. 17:

Help the Interfaith Food Pantry provide local families with Thanksgiving meals. Food item collection will take place from 9 am to noon at the Morris Township Police Station, 49 Woodland Ave. For a list of most-needed items as well as safety instructions, see this flyer:

Grow It Green Morristown’s summer farm stand continues, from 10 am to 2 pm, at The Urban Farm, 31 Hazel St., Morristown.

One highlight of this unusual Halloween season in Morristown is the Super Hero Halloween Virtual Half Marathon. Participants can run 13.1 miles on the course of their choice, and upload their results between Oct. 17 and Oct. 31, 2020. The event is costume-optional–feel free to suit up, maybe as Wonder Woman or The Flash! Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers.

The Morristown chapter of the League of Women Voters will join others at a socially distanced RBG Legacy Rally, as part of the National Women’s March, at 2 pm at the duCret School for the Arts in Plainfield. All are welcome. Masks mandatory.

A string quartet from the American Symphony Orchestra will perform works by Black composers as part of the Morris Museum’s outdoor Lot of Strings Music Festival at 6 pm.  Come at 5 pm for a pre-concert conversation by composer Trevor Weston and ASO violinist Phillp Payton about the experience of Black artists and their contributions to classical music. SUNDAY, OCT. 18:

The Morristown Farmers’ Market continues its 30th season, from 8:30 am until 2 pm every Sunday until Nov. 22, behind the Morristown Post Office in Municipal Lot 10, between Morris Street and Dumont Place.  Safety protocols will be maintained for everyone’s health.

The Folk Project presents Joe Guzzo’s Stayaway Sundays Show at 3 pm. Guzzo shares performances and interviews with Folk Project favorites.

ON THE HALLOWEEN HORIZON:

Although we won’t get to enjoy the classic Downtown Morristown Trick-or-Treat this year, the Morristown Partnership and the Town of Morristown are committed to bringing holiday fun to all — through The Great Morristown Pumpkin Hunt. Starting Oct. 19, participants will be given a list of clues, guiding them to landmarks and points of interests around town, where they will find numbered pumpkins. Families who submit their form by Nov. 2 will be entered in prize drawings. Contact the Morristown Partnership at (973) 455-1133.

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office is joining with nonprofit Halos for Angels for a spooky Halloween decorating contest. Submit photos of your scariest creations online by Oct. 19; the top three entries earn cash prizes. And the decorator with the most votes can spend a day at the Sheriff’s Office. Since its founding in 2010, Halos for Angels has offered support to more than 120 local families undergoing crisis or tragedy.

Passes to the Dodge Poetry Festival are available now! Join more than 75 poets for 11 days of readings, performances, panels, Q&As, and more. Livestream access to the festival is free; those wishing to view the recordings on demand are encouraged to donate what they can. The event runs from Oct. 22 through through Nov. 1.

The Morristown Department of Recreation will sponsor a “trunk-or-treat” event behind Town Hall on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 2 pm to 4 pm. Go car to car, instead of door to door.
