It’s a big weekend for drive-in entertainment in Greater Morristown!

Join friends or family for outdoor movies, comedy, music and aerial theatrics.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 24, 2020:

Local jazz favorite Grover Kemble performs weekly on the patio of Rockaway’s Caffe Navona, from 6 – 9:30 pm.

At 7 pm, the Morristown and Morris Township Library resumes its Virtual Classics Book Club series, with a discussion of Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita. Open to readers new and old.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center presents a drive-in Manhattan Comedy Night at 5:30 pm at the Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township. Featuring Moody McCarthy, Rodney Laney and Marion Grodin. (This event may contain language and adult content). Admission: $100 per carload, $125 for preferred parking. Tickets must be purchased in advance, 973-539-8008.

The latest entertainment on the Morris Museum Parking Deck features xoxo moongirl, a semi-autobiographical circus fantasia featuring the high-flying acrobatics of Nicole Burgio and the music of award-winning composer/cellist Melanie Hsu. The performance blends impressive physical feats and live music to tell the story of a woman grappling with domestic abuse.  Performances on Thursday and Friday at 7 pm. Looking to brush up on your US history? Join the North Jersey Civil War Round Table at 7:14 pm for a feature presentation from author and historian Richard Schwartz (Lincoln Loses!! (Or Does He?). FRIDAY, SEPT. 25:

Start your day with yoga at 9:30 am. The session will be in-person and socially distanced, on the side lawn of the Morristown and Morris Township Library, weather permitting. Attendees should bring their own yoga mats. The library also offers yoga classes on Monday nights.

Make a “big” difference in the lives of local children and families by joining the Drive In Movie Event to benefit Cornerstone Family Programs and the Morristown Neighborhood House. The featured film is Tom Hanks’ Big, at 6:30 pm, at Whippany’s Pine Plaza. Admission: $100 per car. Rain date: Sept. 26.

Alice Howe

The Folk Project welcomes Alice Howe and Freebo to its virtual Acoustic Stayaway stage at 7:00 pm. The nonprofit  describes Howe as “luminous and warm, her lyrics are smart and affecting.” Freebo, her longtime mentor and collaborator, has worked alongside the likes of Ringo Starr and Neil Young. Free.

After a coronavirus-induced hiatus, the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey continues its path to recovery with a 7:30 benefit on its Florham Park backyard stage. A Kind of September: An Evening with Kate Baldwin features the Broadway star, Tony nominee, and STNJ veteran, pulling from her expansive musical repertoire for this one-time, hour-long show. All proceeds benefit the theatre’s theatrical and educational initiatives. Call 973-408-5600 for more details.


SATURDAY, SEPT. 26:

The Morris Plains Farmers’ Market returns this Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm, and will continues through Oct. 10. Shop for fresh fruits and vegetables, all from local farms. Italian specialities, including pastas, meats, and cheeses, will also be available for purchase. More information, as well as safety protocols, for the market can be found here.

Grow It Green Morristown’s summer farm stand returns from 10 am to 2 pm. At the Urban Farm, 31 Hazel St. See the nonprofit’s website for more information as well as safety procedures for the farm stand.

Folk Project standout Mike Agranoff gives a free virtual performance at the New Jersey Storytelling Festival, at 1 pm.

Fresh off the release of her EP Classic, singer Brynn Stanley shares her silky stylings and girl-next-door charm from her living room, every week at 8 pm


SUNDAY, SEPT. 27:

The Morristown Farmers’ Market continues its 30th season, from 8:30 am until 2 pm every Sunday until Nov. 22, behind the Morristown Post Office in Municipal Lot 10, between Morris Street and Dumont Place.  Safety protocols will be maintained for everyone’s health.

The Folk Project presents Joe Guzzo’s Stayaway Sundays Show at 3 pm. Guzzo shares performances and interviews with Folk Project favorites.
