From Morristown Medical Center:

Since COVID-19 came into our region six months ago, community members and Atlantic Health System team members — many first-time donors — contributed more than $3 million in monetary donations and in-kind gifts to Morristown Medical Center.

An additional $369,000 was donated in unrestricted gifts to meet other critical needs throughout the hospital during the crisis.

“The response from our community has been overwhelmingly generous,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, the president of Morristown Medical Center and vice president of the Atlantic Health System.

“The philanthropic support that we received, in addition to the outpouring of encouragement shown to us in countless ways, has really helped get us through these challenging times and continues to be an inspiration. We are so incredibly grateful.”

These contributions not only helped boost the spirits of team members throughout the medical center, but also contributed to the ability to purchase critical, specialized equipment to take care of critically ill patients, including eight machines that conduct quantitative fit testing of respirator masks; Vocera (a digital platform for hands-free communications); a COVID-19 testing machine; IV-drip counters; negative pressure devices; scales and BP kits; ventilators, glidescopes and bronchoscopes.

In addition, it allowed the hospital to purchase 100 iPads to help facilitate socially distanced communication between caregivers and patients, and their families.

In addition to equipment, the hospital received over $160,000 in meal gift cards for front-line team members through Serve it Forward. This program was created in partnership with Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty’s office and Morristown Medical Center as a way to support both local restaurants and healthcare heroes.

The hospital also received thousands of in-kind donations including personal protective equipment (PPE), homemade masks, medical supplies, team member meals, snacks and personal care items, as well as letters and creative signs of support from the community.
