Morris Arts “Great Conversations’ gala goes virtual, Oct. 8

If at first you don’t succeed…go virtual.

That’s the pandemic playbook for just about everywhere.  Morris Arts on Wednesday announced its Great Conversations fundraising dinner is moving to Zoom on Oct. 8, 2020.

The nonprofit will provide the conversations. You’re on your own for dinner.

“This year, the location may be virtual, but you’ll still get to participate in the best part of the event: Conversation, which will enlighten and entertain you, while you support a great cause,” Morris Arts President Tara Skirzenski said in a video.

Video invitation to a virtual dinner party:

Twenty-eight conversationalists from the arts, business and science are on the roster. Registration for the 6:30 pm virtual event is $125, half of last year’s price. Proceeds help Morris Arts support the regional art scene.

“There’s no need to rush out of work and get a sitter. Just grab a comfy seat, find a quiet seat with good WiFi, have a snack handy, and log into Zoom,” Skirzenski said.

Originally scheduled for April 29 at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany, this 12th annual edition of Great Conversations was pushed to Oct. 8 with hopes that the pandemic would be history by then.

But Morris Arts had to cancel its other annual fundraiser, the Giralda Music & Arts Festival, in June.

So it looks like Coronavirus Conversations for the near future. One wonders what artworks this health crisis will inspire. Let’s hope we’ll be viewing them in galleries and museums. Until then… Zoom’s the word.
