Power will be restored by midnight for all remaining customers without electricity after last week’s Tropical Storm Isaias, Jersey Central Power & Light said on Monday.

As of 1 pm, some 703 customers in Morris County were offline. That included 107 in Morris Township, 65 in Morristown and fewer than five customers in Morris Plains.

Statewide, fewer than 8,100 customers — less than 1 percent of JCP&L’s 788,000 impacted customers — still lacked power, according to the utility.

JCP&L had been cautioning that some repairs might not be completed until late on Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020 —  one week after the storm barreled through New Jersey.

Widespread outages after storms has prompted area officials to question the utility’s preparedness, infrastructure and communications.

Morris Township’s mayor and committee invited residents to forward questions and concerns to them, for subsequent discussions with JCP&L and the state Board of Public Utilities about “lessons learned” from a situation that “left many residents feeling angry and frustrated.”

At one point after Isaias, 63 percent of Township households lost power, according to Monday’s message from municipal officials to citizens.

“Going forward, we will play an active, assertive role in all aspects of this process, and we will advocate hard on behalf of our residents,” the mayor and committee said.

Morristown residents who don’t have power restored by late Monday should contact Mayor Tim Dougherty at 973-292-6629, the mayor advised.

He also suggested that residents who have lost service from Altice/Cablevision contact the state BPU at 1-800-624-0331 or 1-800-624-0241.

More from JCP&L:

If your neighbor’s power is on and yours is not, the problem may be isolated to your individual service. Customers who are without power are encouraged to call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com. Customers can also use two-way text messaging to report outages, request updates on restoration efforts, and make other inquiries about their electric accounts. More information about these communications tools is available online at www.firstenergycorp.com/connect.

Utility crews have replaced more than 53 miles of wire, repaired or replaced more than 550 poles and 2,500 cross arms, and worked through more than 700 closed roads to repair service. In addition, JCP&L plans to perform post-storm inspections across its 13-county service area to identify additional damage to wire, cross arms, insulators and other equipment that may need to be addressed.

To safeguard the health and safety of FirstEnergy employees, contractors and the public, please respect social distancing protocols as utility personnel work around the clock to restore all power outages caused by Tropical Storm Isaias.

Still without power?  Let us know when it’s restored. Has your internet/cable service been disrupted?  We’d like to hear about that, too.

  1. Thrilled to have power back but since optimum has been out for 8 days , patience is wearing thin. With everyone working from home, this has been a real problem.
