It’s Census Push Week in New Jersey!

The League of Women Voters has joined the Census Bureau to promote the U.S. Census, through Aug. 2, 2020.

League of Women Voters Morristown AreaWe are holding and encouraging activities across the State, particularly in our hard-to-count areas, to provide opportunities for residents to understand why the Census matters and how to fill it out.

Be on the lookout for these activities and take part. The countdown to the finish of the Census has begun and it’s urgent now, more than ever, for every household in New Jersey to complete their Census at my2020census.gov.

Census partners can safely table at outdoor community events, establish a Census Kiosk (e.g., at food distribution locations, COVID testing locations, places of worship, or libraries), distribute Census flyers, and/or organize a car caravan or chalk-a-thon in hard-to-count communities.

There are also Virtual options: Hosting a virtual block party, reaching out to personal contacts to ensure that they have completed the Census, and engaging Census Bureau Mobile Questionnaire Assistants, who can help people at community events. Whatever you can do to Get Out the Count!

It is essential to ensure that all households and communities are counted in the 2020 Census.

The Census is conducted every 10 years (as required by the U.S. Constitution) and impacts New Jersey’s federal funding, political representation, and economic development.

The Census can be completed in just a few minutes by phone toll free (1-844-468-2020), online (my2020census.gov), or by mail. Responses to the Census are secure, protected by federal law, and cannot be shared with law enforcement agencies.

On Aug. 11, Census enumerators will begin visiting homes who have not filled out their Census.

The League of Women Voters of The Morristown Area also encourages eligible New Jerseyans to register to vote.

Visit VOTE411 to obtain a voter registration form and for information about voting, including how to Vote By Mail. Or contact us at lwvmorrisarea@gmail.com to have a Voter Registration Form mailed to your home. And let us know if you would like to partner on Census or voter registration events!
