Morristown’s Burnham Pool tentatively will reopen on June 27, 2020– with some noteworthy changes imposed because of the coronavirus.
A maximum of 331 persons — half of the facility’s capacity–will be allowed inside at any one time. The diving pool will be closed for the season, and no daily passes will be issued. Lifejackets will be available; kickboards won’t.
Social distancing will be maintained to the extent possible; masks are recommended when members are out of the water. All members will be scanned upon entry, for contact tracing if an outbreak occurs.
Here is the official announcement.
From the town of Morristown:
We are very excited to announce we will be opening Burnham Pool this summer and are grateful to see the ongoing enthusiasm from the community as phone calls and emails continue to roll in each day.
Registration will open on Tuesday, June 16th, 2020, at 9:30am in Community Pass. The Recreation Department is hard at work making all the necessary preparations to optimize safety and public health — including pool inspections, staff training, and of course all changes related to COVID-19, including newly required signage and other protocols.
Due to these extensive preparations, we currently anticipate an opening date of Saturday, June 27TH , which is subject to change and will be finalized in the next week. The finalized opening date, along with the details of all new policies, will be emailed to all members, and posted on our website. Thank you for your patience during this time!

Limited Bather Load
The normal bather load of Burnham Pool is 662. This year, the bather load will be reduced to 331 to encourage social distancing based on the 50 percent reduced capacity order by the State of New Jersey. This will also mean that the Dive Pool will be CLOSED for the Season.
Entry to the Facility
This year, more than ever, membership cards are vital to promoting social distancing between yourself and staff/other members of the facility. Please remember your membership card at each visit. If you do not have your membership card, please call Morristown Recreation at 973-292-6717.
All members must be scanned into the facility. This is crucial to allow for accurate contact tracing should there be a case of COVID-19 at Burnham Pool.
A barrier has been installed to separate our gate attendants from our members. If there is a line when checking in, please follow the 6-foot markings to ensure social distancing.
The front gate will be the only entrance into the facility for the 2020 season, the back will remain closed. When inside the facility, the gate to the left of the flag will the designated exit. This will be monitored by a separate attendant.
