If there ever was a time to insert coins into the machine, it’s now.
The Morristown Game Vault is one of many businesses struggling during the pandemic. The popular old-style arcade on South Street closed in mid-March and hasn’t been open since.
As adjoining businesses are poised to reopen, the Game Vault has turned to a crowdfunding campaign to stay afloat until it gets permission to welcome customers inside again.
“The Morristown Game Vault is a passion of mine that I enjoy daily. Watching the gamers come and go with smiles is why it all makes sense,” said David Balsamini, the arcade’s owner.
Since opening the Morristown Game Vault in March 2016, Balsamini, 50, of Basking Ridge, has turned the former bank into a popular hangout for teens and adults alike.
The former pharmacist, who launched the venture after he and a friend were laid off, posted his appeal, Add Credit to Continue: Morristown Game Vault, last week.
“During this unprecedented time, it is with a heavy heart that we confront the reality that COVID-19 has made it extremely difficult to maintain our operations due to the statewide closure of amusement centers and large venues,” the GoFundMe description reads.
So far, the campaign has garnered over $7,500 toward Balsamini’s goal of $33,000.
“At this time, we appeal to the generosity of our awesome gamers and all those who have come through our doors to celebrate essential milestones to help support us in this time of need,” the campaign continues.
Balsamini is unsure when his business will reopen, but he thanks the community for its assistance and for being so supportive.
“The outreach of concern via social media and support through our newly implemented GoFundMe has been heartwarming,” Balsamini said.
