COVID-19 testing is ramping up rapidly across the state as part of Gov. Phil Murphy’s plan to reopen New Jersey. Here are some options for Greater Morristown residents.

Starting this Friday, self-administered swab tests also will be available from Quest Diagnostics in parking lots at seven Walmart stores. Cedar Knolls is not one of them; you’ll have to drive to Walmart in Flemington, or Kearny, Garfield, North Bergen, Burlington, Howell or Mount Laurel.

These tests will be available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between 7 am and 9 am, though because of Memorial Day next week, the Monday schedule shifts to Tuesday.

Testing is by appointment only; sign up at MyQuestCOVIDTest.com. Results are anticipated to take roughly two days.

CVS pharmacies also will start testing this Friday at 11 New Jersey locations. The closest is in Cedar Ridge. Other locations include Dumont, Rochelle Park and Lodi.

No prescription is necessary, but you must answer online questions, and be deemed symptomatic, to get an appointment. Results should take about three days.

Rite Aid has begun testing, too. These self-administered swab tests are available by appointment, in parking lots at 14 Rite Aid pharmacies. New Jersey residents must fill out a set of questions at riteaid.com.

There will be no in-store signups. The closest participating Rite Aid to Morristown is in Parsippany’s Lake Hiawatha section. Other Rite Aids doing testing are in Clifton, Somerset, Edison, and Newark.

As with Walmart, these tests will be delivered to you in your car by an employee, who will demonstrate the process from a distance.

The tests are free, according to the state’s website, COVID19.nj.gov. However, other fees may be added. Check closely when you register.

Morris County, meanwhile, continues offering free drive-through testing at the County College of Morris in Randolph to residents of Morris and Sussex counties who have a doctor’s prescription, and register in advance. More details are here.

Antibody testing — to determine if you’ve had COVID-19 at any point — is available at a variety of locations, some requiring appointments and some not.

At Passport Health, at 290 Madison Ave. in Morristown, the test is free, but there is a $50 processing fee. It also is restricted to private insurance holders and those on Medicare.

Governor Murphy has set a goal of 20,000 tests per day by the end of May.
