Virtual Art Shows and Tours

Hoping to hone your dancing skills while stuck at home? The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company is offering daily company-style dance classes, starting at 12:00 pm, over the video-conferencing software Zoom. Nai-Ni Chen is inviting all dancers to join them for these free classes by registering using this form

Morris Arts has published its new exhibit, Vanishing Worlds. The works, in varying styles, explore the central theme of change and human response to it. Viewers can explore each piece of art and artist in depth, while learning about the context and inspiration surrounding each work. There are virtual learning programs for kids, too.

Opera at Florham has posted videos of its past events, featuring young opera singers in 10 performances.

The Morris County Tourism Bureau has posted a virtual walking tour, in the form of an app available on the iTunes and Google Play stores. The tour includes some of the most prominent historical features of Morristown, including the home of Thomas Nast, history of architecture in Morristown, the many historical churches in the center of town.

Hoping to see an original film while movie theaters are closed? The Thomas Edison Media Arts Consortium is working in conjunction with Black Maria Films to deliver short films free of charge, for the duration of the pandemic. Accessible anytime at www.blackmaria.org, one will find a curated program of short films, in addition to healthy recipes to emulate the feeling of  “dinner and a show.”

The Mayo Performing Arts Center has a virtual arts page with links to many great online- and broadcast concerts, theatrical productions, talks, tours and more.


THURSDAY, APRIL 23, 2020:

Dave Kleiner of the Folk Project leads a weekly Acoustic Stayway Songwriters Circle at 7 pm. Receive feedback on your latest song, discuss song craft, or just listen.

FRIDAY, APRIL 24:

Yoga instructor Munah Hayes takes her 9:30 am session from the Morristown and Morris Township Library to the digital world.

At noon on Wednesdays and Fridays, Carolyn Dorfman Dance offers a free, hour-long class studying Contemporary Modern Dance Technique via video-conferencing platform Zoom. Each class centers around an excerpt from Dorfman’s own work. Registration for the classes is available at this link.

For the third installment in its Friday virtual concert series, the Mayo Performing Arts Center is welcoming country music duo October Rose to the stage. You can find Derek Allan and Leanne Weiss at 12:30 pm Friday on the MPAC Facebook page.

Singer-songwriter Carla Ulbrich specializes in making people laugh. Check out her free concert series on YouTube at 6:30 pm.

At 7 pm Friday, Becky Tracy and Keith Murphy bring their unique style to The Folk Project’s Acoustic Stayaway program. Listeners will enjoy the energetic beauty of Tracy’s fiddle alongside Murphy’s instrumental and vocal skills, singing in both English and French.


SATURDAY, APRIL 25:

Singer Brynn Stanley brings her silky vocals and sparkling personality from her living room to yours with weekly 7 pm shows on her Facebook page. Look for weekly themes and special (remote) guests.


SUNDAY, APRIL 26:

For National Poetry Month, the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Program kicks off Spring & Fountain Online, a free, week-long program meant to “help you cultivate some calm and tend to your spirit during a difficult time.”   Register here to receive daily emails with activities, curated packets of poems, opportunities to connect online with other poetry-lovers, and more.

 


MONDAY, APRIL 27:

Take turns singing a song with the Folk Project community, led by Jay Wilensky. Songs that Sing to Me starts at 7 pm.


TUESDAY, APRIL 28:

Todd Dennison and Annie Donahue.

Annie Donahue and Todd Dennison are headlining this Tuesday’s edition of The Folk Project’s “Acoustic Stayaway” series. Blending folk, gospel, and jazz genres as a vehicle for powerful and emotional lyrics, audiences can expect an original and unique musical experience by visiting The Folk Project webpage at 7:00 pm.

 

 


WEDNESDAY, APRIL 29:

Teach Your Guitar to Sing, with the Folk Project’s Bob McNally, at 7 pm.

Practice meditation with author Justyn Comer, as he streams his Introduction to Meditation series on YouTube, from 7:30 to 9 pm. Free and open to people of all levels of experience.
