GROW IT GREEN MORRISTOWN SHIFTS STRATEGY DUE TO COVID-19
While keeping focus on serving local community

Nonprofit  Grow It Green Morristown has always been about serving the local community. During the pandemic, as changes come daily to our operation, Grow It Green remains focused on providing access to local healthy food by donating what we have grown and getting seedlings in the ground.

Like so many of our local business and restaurant friends, we know we must continue to adapt to actively be there for the community.

One of the changes made as a result of COVID-19 was the need to shift our primary fundraiser of the year to a virtual event. Grow It Green Morristown’s Diamonds for Kale is now a Silent Auction Fundraiser spanning from Wednesday, April 22 – Saturday, April 25, 2020.

NO tickets needed- just register to bid.

Seeing the impact of the pandemic on the community, Grow It Green had an idea to help out. This auction now serves two purposes: To benefit local nonprofit Grow It Green Morristown, and the local businesses and restaurants that you care about that make up the heart of this community.

“When we made the tough decision to change to a virtual event, our generous staff and Board of Directors jumped in to find a way to help local businesses as well by purchasing gift cards to add to the auction,” states Emma Farwell, marketing and garden manager.

Highlights of the auction in addition to gift cards to local businesses include items unique to the area and to Grow It Green. Have you always wanted the chance to name a chicken, or have a private garden consultation with Farmer Shaun to help you grow your own food?

Want a prime parking spot for a downtown Morristown event or the chance to attend a local music festival with friends? Register now to join the bidding by going to D4K2020.givesmart.com or texting D4K2020 to 76278.

At this year’s event, Grow It Green was and still is pleased to honor its Community Partner of the Year, the Morris School District Board of Education. Executive Director Lisa Alexander reminds bidders:

“Your lively bidding and donations are critical to continue to offer farm-to-school education for thousands of students in the classroom and on the farm. Introducing children at a young age to healthy food choices has a direct impact on their ability to achieve physical and educational milestones.”

Inspiring children to develop habits that prevent chronic diseases and improve their immune systems is possible even through the simple joys of being on a farm.

In addition, Grow It Green is grateful to its Corporate Partner of the Year, Kings Food Market, which for years has supported the organization as part of Kings’ initiative to Act Against Hunger. Kings helps make it possible for the organization to plan and plant to donate thousands of pounds of fresh produce that will be even more critical for the most vulnerable in our community.

Another special honoree this year is Chris Sappenfield, who receives the Marianne Tobler Volunteer of the Year award for her endless energy helping the organization.

Follow Grow It Green on the silent auction platform (D4K2020.givesmart.com) and through social media @gigmotown throughout the event.

One silver lining to the change in the event, in addition to supporters getting to bid with their pajamas on, is that all proceeds from the auction directly fund Grow It Green Morristown’s ability to feed, grow and educate with programs at The Urban Farm and Early Street Community Garden for children, families and communities. T

This event typically raises over $50,000 of critical funding, and we need you to help make this happen.

Grow It Green knows a lot about hope for the future and focusing on preparing the next generation for a healthier future. Join in the auction. Bidding is open to the public and ends at 9 pm EST on Saturday, April 25th. Grab your friends for a Zoom call–and bid knowing that you are supporting a local nonprofit that is all about the health and wellness of our community!
