TABLE OF HOPE & MORRIS SCHOOL DISTRICT TO PROVIDE FOOD
FOR STUDENTS IN NEED OVER SPRING BREAK
Collaboration with school district, faith & non-profit leaders, and local restaurant results in food for families in need during COVID-19 Pandemic
Table of Hope, with the support of the Morris School District, will continue to provide food for breakfast and lunch next week over spring break for students in need.
This decision comes after conversations between the district and a coalition of faith and nonprofit leaders last week, with a local restaurant providing critical support to make this possible.
Food will be distributed Monday through Friday, April 6-10, 2020, and again on Monday, April 13, from 11 am-1 pm at the Table of Hope, at Bethel AME Church (59 Spring St., Morristown).
The decision to provide food over spring break happened after a conversation last week between Superintendent Mackey Pendergrast and a coalition of clergy and nonprofit leaders from 15 congregations and organizations who are responding collectively during the current pandemic.
A solution was found and action was taken incredibly quickly.
Within 24 hours of the initial conversation with Superintendent Pendergrast, the district had ordered the food, the Office Tavern & Grill had stored the food in its freezer, and Table of Hope and the Spring Street Community Development Corp. were ready to distribute it.
Office Tavern & Grill (part of the Villa Restaurant Group, which is still open for takeout during the pandemic) is providing freezer space to store the lunches this week since schools are shut down.
