If you missed Tuesday’s Morristown council meeting, which was streamed live via video and telephone conference call, below is audio recorded from my computer.

The echo and feedback were part of the webcast. Town officials participated from remote locations, via their computers, because town hall is closed and the state has banned all gatherings during the coronavirus pandemic.

Topics included a local death from COVID-19, donations of protective gear to the hospital, and initiatives to help town businesses. Contracts also were approved to move forward on a long-delayed Speedwell Avenue park.

Present: Mayor Tim Dougherty, Administrator Jillian Barrick, town Attorney Vij Pawar and town Clerk Margot Kaye; Council President Stefan Armington and Vice President Toshiba Foster, and Council Members Michael Elms, Robert Iannaccone, David Silva, Tawanna Cotten and Sandi Mayer.

You can see the meeting agenda here.

The agenda indicates the board will consider granting site plan approval for an 85-apartment complex on Morris Street–originally dubbed “The LW,” for Live-Work, which replaced a controversial proposal for a self-storage facility.

Council President Stefan Armington, council liaison to the planning board, said on Tuesday that the board would not discuss the pending M Station office redevelopment.  It remains on the agenda, however.

  1. Kevin – Gotcha, thanks. And I apologize for the assumption that it was one of the council chucking. Makes sense if you were recording from something like Zoom that your mic would come through as loud. If that was your dog barking, too, give it a virtual treat from me. Surreal and bizarre is about right.

  2. That was me chuckling at the visuals during the Pledge, Linda. The effect was kind of surreal– like, this is how bizarre daily life has become. There were about a dozen thumbnails, almost like the Hollywood Squares, and each person stood up in his or her living room, den, wherever, facing different directions, reciting the Pledge at different tempos because of audio limitations.

  3. Who the hell is laughing while they are saying the Pledge of Allegiance? Why are they discussing plastic bags at this time? I was told by a store that we are NOT to bring our own bags during this crisis. In addition, Business Interruption Insurance is endorsed as an option onto a Commercial Property policy and covers loss of income as a result of a covered peril. A virus is NOT a covered peril on any policy I’ve seen. Read the fine print. here is likely an exclusion “We will not pay for loss or damage caused by or resulting from any virus, bacterium or other microorganism that induces or is capable of inducing physical distress, illness, or disease.” The Mayor is not qualified to discuss insurance coverage, among other things.
