Choristers from around the region will convene in Morristown this weekend to sing the praises of the rich choral tradition at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
The reunion of choir alumni will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the first choir at St. Peter’s. Festivities start with a Piano Bar welcome party at 8 pm on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, and culminate on Saturday, Feb. 15, with a 4 pm concert.
The program will include Anglican Greatest Hits, pulling from different eras of the choir’s history.
St. Peter’s Organist and Choir Master Joshua Stafford has invited former Choirmasters Richard Morgan and Anne Yardly to conduct favorite pieces from their years as directors, just as he did at the 2014 reunion.
Some current choir members re-joined the choir at the last reunion. Stafford recalls how exciting it was to conduct the large sound from the extended group of singers.
“Hope you take a few moments during the weekend to take in the magnitude of what it means to be part of something with this history. One hundred and thirty years of giving glory to God, giving to the community and training generations of musicians is quite beautiful,” choir member Katie Bang said Friday in a message from Berlin.
The public is welcome to enjoy the concert. The suggested donation is $25. St. Peter’s is at 121 South St.
Three generations of Merzattas will be in the choir on Saturday.
