Craving comfort food this weekend?
Mac & Cheese Mayhem may be just what you’re looking for.
New Jersey vendors will feature various versions of mac and cheese on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at the Morristown Armory in Morris Township.
Allison Kohler, president of JMK Events, said the idea came to her about a year ago.
“I was thinking about how much I love mac and cheese and how many wonderful childhood memories I have of eating mac and cheese, and what a fantastic comfort food it is,” said the self-professed foodie.
Realizing how many people felt the same way, Kohler figured, why not do a mac and cheese festival?
Preparations began about six months ago. She anticipates at least 2000 visitors to the nine-hour expo. A top priority is ensuring there will be enough mac and cheese to go around.
“The food vendors have to prepare enough food to meet the crowd and they are coming prepared!” Kohler promised.
Sixteen mac and cheese vendors will compete for public votes for the Mac Daddy Award.
Competitors include the award-winning food truck Bearded One BBQ, which will serve a mac and cheese dish topped by pulled pork. Shore Good Eats and Treats with bring mac and cheese egg rolls. Doughnut Evolution, The Flying Pie Guy and House of Cupcakes, among others, also will their creations.
Although food prices are not included with the $5 general admission cost, prices for each dish generally will range between $3-$8. One exception: The $10 lobster mac and cheese from Angry Archie’s.
Attendees over 21 can purchase alcoholic beverages. Activities for younger visitors will include face painting and henna tattoos by Pixie Painters. A hatchet-throwing event also is advertised. Perhaps that’s where the “Mayhem” comes in?
Tickets for Mac & Cheese Mayhem are available here. The event runs from 11 am to 8 pm, at the Morristown Armory on 430 Western Ave. Onsite parking is free. More details are here.
