FREEHOLDERS, SHERIFF, PROSECUTOR, CLERGY TO HOLD COMMUNITY RALLY AGAINST HATE
STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL TO PARTICIPATE IN THURSDAY EVENT IN RANDOLPH
Morris County residents are invited to a special “Community Rally Against Hate’’ on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, at 5 p.m. in Randolph, with a goal of standing united against hatred and bigotry that recently has targeted the Jewish community and other faiths in our state and nation.
The event, to be held at the Gottesman RTW Academy at 146 Dover Chester Road in Randolph, is sponsored by the Morris County Board of Freeholders, in coordination with Morris County Sheriff James M. Gannon and Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, and clergy from across the county.
“We cannot tolerate the attacks that are being perpetrated against members of our community, in New Jersey, New York, and the entire nation, for their religious beliefs,’’ said Freeholder Director Deborah Smith. “We cannot say it more strongly: Not Here. Not Now. Not Ever.’’
In the wake of recent attacks, the freeholders reached out to county law enforcement and religious leaders to explore a possible county response, and are asking members of faith-based communities across the county and the general public to join in standing up against hatred, violence and bigotry.
Expected participants in the Jan. 9 event, at this time, include New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal, Freeholder Smith, Sheriff Gannon, Prosecutor Knapp, Rabbi Levi Dubinsky of the Chabad Center of Northwest New Jersey, Basel Hamdeh of Jam-e-Masjid Islamic Center in Boonton; Rev. Herman Scott of Calvary Baptist Church in Morristown; Chandu Bhoraniya, devotee of B.A.P.S. Swaminarayan Mandir in Parsippany; and Freeholder John Krickus.
Students from the Gottesman School will offer songs during the event.
There will be some on-site parking for the event at Gottesman Academy. Expected overflow parking will be handled at nearby County College of Morris (Lot XX). Shuttle buses will take attendees on the very brief trip to the event from the college to the event.
Local police and Sheriff’s officers will be on hand to help direct attendees to the parking sites.
