If at first you don’t succeed…

Alison Deeb, who in November lost a bid for a fourth term as Morristown’s Fourth Ward Councilwoman and then garnered just five votes from Morris County Republicans for a vacant state Assembly seat, says she will seek appointment to the Morris Freeholder board.

A Jan. 15, 2020, convention of GOP committee members is scheduled to choose a successor to Freeholder Heather Darling, who was elected as county Surrogate.

“I fundamentally believe in less spending and less taxation and will fight corruption at all levels of government as I am a fiscal conservative,” Deeb said Tuesday in a statement.

She indicated she also plans to run in the Republican primary in June to pursue the nomination to seek Darling’s freeholder seat in November 2020.

Other potential candidates at the January convention include former Freeholder John Cesaro–who faces state charges of taking bribes–and Chatham Township Mayor Tayfun Selen and former Pompton Lakes Councilman Christian Barranco.

Deeb, for years the lone Republican on the Morristown council, ran unsuccessfully for freeholder in 2012, and for Morristown mayor in 2017.

She cited a master’s degree in public administration and her volunteer work creating a county dog park as founder of the nonprofit MARDOG Inc. among her qualifications, and said she hopes to continue the legacies of Darling, Margaret Nordstrom and the late Leanna Brown, “who brought integrity, wisdom, and principled leadership to the Freeholder board.”

On Nov. 21, 2019, Deeb finished fourth in a six-way race to temporarily succeed state Assemblyman Anthony M. Bucco (R-25th Dist.). Bucco was appointed to replace his late father, Tony Bucco, in the state Senate. Party officials chose Aura Dunn of Mendham Township for the Assembly vacancy.

During her pitch that night at the County College of Morris, Deeb described herself as “a thorn in (the Democrats’) side” at every Morristown council meeting.

She also accused Gov. Phil Murphy of attacking the Second Amendment, “not cooperating with immigration officers, aided by an out-of-control state attorney general, offering free college to illegals… fiscal lunacy (and) left-wing indoctrination in our schools right down to elementary levels.”

MORRISTOWN, N.J., Jan. 1, 2020 – Alison Deeb is proud to announce her candidacy for Morris County Freeholder in 2020. Deeb ran for Freeholder in 2012, and finished third after the winning ticket and incumbent in a strong field of ten candidates. Deeb hopes to secure the Republican Party Committee’s nod at the Convention in 2020 as well as the June Primary and November General Election.

Deeb was the first Republican elected to the Morristown Council in 15 years in 2007 and in her first year of office formed a budget subcommittee to identify wasteful spending. Deeb single-handedly identified $1.2 million in budget cuts without cutting services. Deeb’s priorities have always been cutting wasteful spending, trimming bloated bureaucracies while maintaining excellent services.

“I am incredibly honored to have served Morristown taxpayers for the past twelve years and look forward to serving all of Morris County as Freeholder. I want to continue the legacies of Former State Senator and Freeholder Leanna Brown, Former Freeholder Margaret Nordstrom and Former Freeholder Heather Darling, who brought integrity, wisdom, and principled leadership to the Freeholder Board. I fundamentally believe in less spending and less taxation and will fight corruption at all levels of government as I am a fiscal conservative. I like to thank about ways to improve government, am uniquely qualified as a program manager and consultant and can develop creative and innovative solutions to the same old problems. My twelve years of working in the County Seat has provided an excellent foundation as well as my Master’s degree in Public Administration, professional work experience as a Management Consultant and volunteer Board Service for First Night Morris County and Windmill Pond Townhome Association.”

Deeb’s Republican party experience includes: County Committee member since 2008; current Secretary of the Morristown Municipal Committee; assisting the late Leanna Brown; volunteering for Governor Christie for President, Senator McCain for President and Assemblyman Webber for Congress.

Deeb is Founder of MARDOG, Inc., a non-profit corporation since 2002, that founded the first off leash dog park in Morris County in collaboration with the Morris County Park Commission at no cost to taxpayers. MARDOG is currently committed to supporting responsible dog ownership as well as establishing dog parks in Morris County in towns that want them.

In April 2019, Deeb was awarded the Leadership Morris Achievement Award by the Morris County Chamber of Commerce. “I truly started at the bottom in both politics and in public service, have worked and volunteered my way through the ranks and I’m ready and eager to make a difference in Morris County.” said Deeb.

  1. Alison is insane. She has stormed out of meetings, made the council take recess so she could walk her dog, picked fights with every one of her council colleagues and if anyone votes for her, they too should be considered insane.

  2. Watch some of the Town Council meetings. Her behavior can range from childish to irate. Her lack of professionalism is scary. I do believe that she has served as something of a check on the council that can, at times, seem beholden to the mayor and she has advocated for the parks and historic features in her ward. That being said, I don’t believe she has the right temperament or leadership to rise to the level of a County position. I honestly think that if there were no salary/ benefits involved, she wouldn’t run.

  3. Warren…you have mis-characterized Alison. Have you ever met her? She has a lot of energy and is very focused on her constituents. I have known her to be devoted to public service, so I would happily support her for Freeholder.

  4. Precisely what Morris County does not need As a freeholder. Another entitled yet failed Republican
