There are a bunch wonderful elves around Morristown. Some of them planned a holiday party for the Seniors Center on Early Street on Saturday night.

Chief among them were Bonnie Lewczak and Lorena Inestroza, who enlisted the help of their friends and families to organize a festive evening for the residents.

“A bunch of my friends usually go out for a big fancy-pants dinner and spend way too much money,” said Lewczak, a realtor in Morristown. “So we decided this year, instead of doing that, we’d do something nice for the community.”

She was joined by her son and daughter-in-law, her mother and a friend.

Inestroza, a member of the Resident Advisory Council for the Morristown Housing Authority and a recent town council candidate, lives in the building. She is looking forward to a refurbishment currently in the works.

“Our new director, Keith Kinnard is absolutely wonderful. He has assured me that once we are done, our building will look as good as the Modera,” said Inestroza, referring to the stylish rental units across the street.

The volunteers arrived the day before to set up decorations that included a theatrical vignette, complete with scenic background and an antique gilded chair for Santa. They wore their antler hats with glee and moved around the room to engage the residents.

The sound system kept things humming with dance music that got more than a few seniors up and dancing. They were joined by members of the Lewczak and Inestroza families that included young children whose energy was infectious.

Perhaps most inspiring was the response to Lewczak’s Facebook page advertising the party. Well-wishers provided desserts, soda, small gift bags, and donated $150 for pizza dinner for everyone. Fifty bottles of detergent were dropped off as well.

Undaunted by the time and effort spent on the festivities, Lewczak was enjoying the results of her hard work and hopes to do it all again next year.
