Students at Morristown High School’s homecoming dance had extra chaperones on Saturday night:  Police from Morristown, Morris Township and the Morris County Park Commission.

Police were notified by the Morris School District about a threat posted on SnapChat, said Morristown Acting Police Chief Darnell Richardson.

“The threat was that some unknown person would come to the school and shoot it up,” the chief said. “We responded with patrols, but the information was not substantiated.”

Students had reported the posting to school officials, he said. Police responded at 8:36 pm, and stayed at the high school past the event, until 10 pm, to ensure everyone’s safety, Richardson said.

There are no suspects at this time, he said.
