Greater Morristown weekend preview: Time for the Fall Festival

If there’s a nip in the air, and a hint of orange and yellow in the trees, it can mean only one thing:

The Morristown Festival on the Green.

That’s on Sunday. But that’s just one of the diversions that Great Morristown offers this weekend.

THURSDAY, SEPT. 26, 2019:

Morristown’s Table of Hope soup kitchen presents its annual Beefsteak for Hope fundraising dinner, at 6 pm at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany. Contribution: $65. Proceeds are earmarked for a Mobile Food Pantry. At 111 North Jefferson Road. Call 973-715-8483.

The North Jersey Civil War Round Table presents author Barbara T. Dreyfuss, discussing The Underground Railroad and the Abolitionist Movement in South Jersey, at 7:14 pm in Morris Township. Admission: $5; students, free. At the Haggerty Education Center at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, 353 E. Hanover Ave. (opposite the Morris County Library).

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison enters the final weekend of its fall romantic comedy, As You Like It, at 8 pm. Tickets start at $49.  At Drew University, 36 Madison Ave., Madison, 973-408-5600.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 27:

Morning Yoga with Munah Hayes returns to the Morristown & Township Library at 9:30 am. Free. Bring a yoga mat. At One Miller Road, Morristown.

Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center celebrates its 25th season with a free Springsteen tribute show, by the BSTREETBAND, at 7:30 pm. Admission is free, but you’ll want to reserve tickets early. There is a two-ticket limit. At 100 South St., 973-539-8008.

The BSTREETBAND will perform a Springsteen tribute at MPAC.

The Troubadour Acoustic Concert Series in Morris Township presents Irish harper Patrick Ball at 7:30 pm. Admission: $10; children 12 and under, free.  At the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship, 21 Normandy Heights Road.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 28:

The Morris Plains Farmers Market is back for its 17th season, from 9 am to 2 pm every Saturday through Oct. 12, 2019, rain or shine, in the Merchant Block parking lot near the Model Railroad Club building.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison presents its fall romantic comedy, As You Like It at 2 pm and 8 pm. See Thursday entry for details.


SUNDAY, SEPT. 29:

The Morristown Farmers Market is back for its 29th season, from 8:30 am to 2 pm every Sunday through Nov. 24, 2019. At Lot 10, behind the Post Office, between Dumont Place and Morris Street. Presented by the Morristown Partnership.

The Morristown Festival on the Green celebrates its 25th year with music, activities for all ages, and more food vendors than you can shake a fork at!  From noon to 5 pm, rain or shine. Presented by the Morristown Partnership.
