Library of Things is now available at the Morristown & Morris Township Library

Your library card now gives you access to even more than books, movies, and music. Morristown & Morris Township residents can now check out items from our newest collection: the ‘Library of Things’! This collection offers cardholders the chance to explore a new hobby, or to borrow an item they may need only once rather than purchasing it.

Check for buried treasure with the metal detector, start a sewing project with a sewing machine, or try your hand at gardening with a handy starter kit. Prepare your home’s energy efficiency for winter with the help of a thermal camera and air quality monitor. And enjoy some outdoor games while the weather’s still warm with a bocce ball set or a game of Frisbee golf.

Other Library of Things items include: a portable telescope, ukulele, mobile LED movie projector, Crochet set, and a Badminton set. We are steadily adding new items, and will soon offer classic video game consoles such as the SNES Classic.

In addition to the Library of Things, the Reference Department also offers other non-book items that you might not have expected.  Morristown & Morris Township cardholders can check out Museum Passes  for institutions that include the Guggenheim Museum, Grounds for Sculpture, Craftsman Farms Stickley Museum, and Brooklyn Botanical Garden.  Certain rules apply and our Reference desk staff is happy to answer any questions.  Residents can also check out six Kindle eReaders pre-loaded with 100 popular titles.

Each Library of Things kit comes with a set of instructions and accessories required to use the item, all housed inside a portable bag. Items may be borrowed for 14 days, but are not renewable, and they must be returned at the Circulation Desk of the Morristown & Morris Township Library.

Special thanks to the John Bickford Foundation for a special grant in support of our Library of Things. Visit today and discover something new!
