A man was struck and killed by a commuter train at Convent Station early Friday, a spokesman for NJ Transit said.

NJ Transit police are investigating and have not yet released the identity of the man, described as a “trespasser.”

The incident occurred at 2:15 am. None of the 20 passengers on the westbound No. 6601 train were injured; all exited for alternative transportation home, said NJ Transit spokesman Jim Smith.

It was the last train of the evening for the Morris & Essex Line, departing New York’s Penn Station at 12:56 am and scheduled to arrive in Dover at 2:30 a.m.

This was the 12th fatality on NJ Transit tracks this year, and the first involving the Morris & Essex Line, Smith said.
