The National Weather Service advises people in Greater Morristown to seek shelter indoors as severe thunderstorms blast through our region on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 7, 2019.

FOR SOUTHEASTERN MORRIS AND NORTHEASTERN SOMERSET COUNTIES…

At 2:17 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Basking Ridge,
or near Morristown, moving east at 20 mph.

HAZARD…60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE…Radar indicated.

IMPACT…Minor damage to vehicles is possible. Wind damage to roofs,
siding, trees, and power lines is possible.

Locations impacted include…
Morristown, Madison, Florham Park, East Hanover, Chatham, Morris
Plains, Mendham, Far Hills, Parsippany, Millington, Basking Ridge,
Bernardsville and Hanover Township.

This includes Interstate 287 in New Jersey between mile markers 25
and 42.

Continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm.
