Could you imagine, at 57, a retired teacher and politician is about to venture 14 hours by plane to camp in Africa?
Well, it’s about to happen! My flight sets out today, Aug. 2, 2019, and returns Oct. 5th. An all-in-one trip of a lifetime for me. I can’t imagine anywhere else to begin my new journey and celebrate my 58th birthday!
I won’t know a soul until I step off the plane and join a group of 25 others on an oversized truck with the Overland Africa Travel Company.
My trip begins in Nairobi, Kenya, and travels south through Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia, before ending with six days in Cape Town, South Africa.
The excitement of sleeping under the African sky with the far-off roar of the lion… sharing these experiences with like-minded travelers… camping under the stars… cooking and washing up together…hiking, diving, abseiling, white-water rafting and sharing the odd cold beer or two… it may not be a luxury holiday, but it’s undoubtedly going to be a lot of fun.
I’ll support many African communities we travel through, participating in optional activities provided by locals in the rural communities that are essential in bringing much needed revenue into these households.
Additionally, we will purchase our food supplies at local markets (East Africa), where the money goes direct to the person who grows the produce.
I can’t wait. Talk to you soon!
