Morristown Police advise motorists to plan alternate routes around Martin Luther King Avenue this morning, Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

The roadway is closed between Abbett Avenue and Spring Street because of a downed utility pole from a crash earlier this morning.

A vehicle struck the pole near 19 Martin Luther King Ave. at 1:44 am, causing a minor injury to the driver’s wrist, said Morristown Public Safety Director Michael Corcoran Jr.  The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

JCP&L crews are on the scene for repairs; the utility company advises that   periodic power outages are likely.

While detours are in place and police officers are on hand to assist with traffic,  extended delays and heavy traffic are possible, according to police.

“Motorists should avoid the area, plan an alternate route, or allow extra travel time if transiting through this area,” police advise in a statement.
