Greater Morristown weekend preview: Diversity Day, Silly Shakespeare

You don’t have to head down the Shore for summer fun.

Stick around Greater Morristown this weekend, and you can laugh at Shakespeare, enter the kids in a Triathlon, celebrate a new CD, and enjoy a heaping dose of diverse music on the leafy Morristown Green.

THURSDAY, JULY 11, 2019:

The deadline to register for Saturday’s Tri-Harder Kids Triathlon in Morris Township is 3 pm. See Saturday entry for details or call 973-326-7371.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents its outdoor production of William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged), at 8 pm in the amphitheater of the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morris Township. Tickets: $38; youths 18 and under, free. At 2 Convent Road, 973-408-5600.


FRIDAY, JULY 12:

Morning Yoga with Munah Hayes returns to the Morristown & Township Library at 9:30 am. Free. Bring a yoga mat. At One Miller Road, Morristown.

The band Zaire performs from 6 pm to 8 pm at Madison’s Downtown Concert Series, in from of the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts. Free. At 9 Main St.

The Folk Project’s revamped open stage offers two stages, to ensure everyone gets a shake at performing. Arrive at 7 pm to sign up; performances start at 7:30. This month’s featured act is Randie O’Neil, will be celebrating the release of her CD, I’m Not That Girl. She will perform songs from the recording, which will be on sale in the lobby. Admission: $10; $5 for anyone under age 21. SATURDAY, JULY 13:

The Morris Plains Farmers Market is back for its 17th season, from 9 am to 2 pm every Saturday through Oct. 12, 2019, rain or shine, in the Merchant Block parking lot near the Model Railroad Club building.

The Morris Township Department of Parks and Recreation will host its annual Tri-Harder Kids Triathlon for children ages 4 to 14 (if not in high school), at Ginty Pool. Check-in at 7:30 pm, events start at 8:30 am. Swim-bike-run format with age-appropriate distances. All area kids welcome. Registration: $15; deadline is Thursday at 3 pm. Participants must bring bikes, helmets and appropriate biking footwear. Call 973-326-7371 for more.

The Morris County Tourism Bureau presents an 11 am tour of Morristown’s Willow Hall, former home of Congressman George Vail. Tickets: $15. At 330 Speedwell Ave., 973-631-5151.

SUNDAY, JULY 14:

The Morristown Farmers Market is back for its 38th season, from 8:30 am to 2 pm every Sunday through Nov. 24, 2019. The Burnham Boys will perform at 10 am. At Lot 10, behind the Post Office, between Dumont Place and Morris Street. Presented by the Morristown Partnership.

The Diversity Coalition of Morris County, an apolitical coalition of faith-based organizations individuals, presents the second annual Diversity Day celebration, from 11 am to 5 pm on the Morristown Green. (Bad weather moves everything into the Morristown United Methodist Church.) The day starts at 11 am with an interfaith service on the Green, with entertainment following at noon:
