Mayor Tim Dougherty was back in circulation on Tuesday, after a weekend heart attack.
“I feel good. I can perform my duties,” he said, sipping a decaf cappuccino at SmartWorld a few hours before the evening’s council meeting.
Dougherty, 60, drove himself to Morristown Medical Center around 5 pm on Saturday after appearing at a festival and a church celebration.
“It felt like a line of pressure across the top of my chest. It was something I never felt before,” he said.
Cardiologist Domenick Randazzo installed a stent to correct a massive blockage of an artery, said the mayor, who is easing up temporarily from his full-time job, as an engineer for the Prudential Center in Newark.
Dougherty said he’s grateful for many visits, calls and texts of support from across the state.
The takeaway?
“The biggest thing I can say is, listen to your body…hopefully, your body will tell you if something needs to be done. I didn’t ignore it, and they took care of it right away.”
Oh, and in the unlikely event that there is a next time…
“I’ll call an ambulance.”
Good luck and good health, Mr. Mayor. I worked at the Morristown Medical Center for 25 years and you were at the right place at the right time. Joe Morrisco
Mayor Dougherty, so happy you are recovering. Please take care of yourself- rest, rest, rest. We need such a fine man like your self leading the troops in Morristown.
