As of 4:15 pm on Wednesday, Franklin Street near Morristown Medical Center remained closed, and it was likely to stay shut for a few more hours as utility crews continued to repair a downed utility line, Morristown officials said.

A related power outage has knocked out a traffic signal at South Street and Madison Avenue. Police estimated it should be restored by about 5:30 pm; in the meantime police are directing traffic and advising motorists to plan alternate routes if possible.

Shortly before 1:15 pm, a truck hit a utility pole. Morristown Public Safety Director Michael Corcoran Jr. said there were no injuries. But power must be re-routed before the pole can be fixed, he said.

In the meantime, anyone seeking to access the hospital emergency room is being re-routed to the Madison Avenue/Franklin Street access point or to the front of the hospital on Madison Avenue.

Regular operation of the hospital has not been adversely affected, said Morristown Medical Center spokeswoman Elaine Andrecovich.
