A fire caused extensive damage to a Morris Township home on Wednesday afternoon.

No injuries were reported, but the blaze forced extensive traffic detours on busy Mendham Avenue as firefighters from Morristown, Morris Plains, Madison, Mendham and Cedar Knolls assisted the Township fire department.

“It was coming out the roof,” neighbor Peggy Cox said of the fire at 51 Mendham Ave.

The house faces Burnham Park, near the Morristown town line. Firefighters raced to the scene shortly after 3 pm.

Township police and first aid personnel also responded, as did members of the Morris County Emergency Management team.

Tim Quinn, the Township administrator, said the home now is uninhabitable. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by Township authorities and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, Quinn said.
