Team 26 will stop in Morristown on April 26, 2019, on the way from Newtown CT to Pittsburgh’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood, where 11 people were shot dead in a synagogue last October.
The cyclists have been pedaling to promote common-sense gun laws every spring since the massacre of 20 children and six teachers at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012.
This will mark their seventh year stopping in Morristown. Mayor Tim Dougherty plans to welcome them at a 5 pm rally outside town hall on Friday, April 26.
Residents are invited to join Team 26 in a bicycle escort as the group rolls from town hall at 8 am on Saturday, April 27.
In past years, Team 26 continued to Washington DC. This time, the cyclists’ 400-mile ride will take them west to Pittsburgh, “uniting Newtown with Squirrel Hill and all communities in between,” says the Team 26 website.
“An attack on one faith is an attack on all faiths… We will ride with Charlestown, Christchurch, Sutherland Springs, and Oak Creek in our hearts,” proclaims the site, referring to other mass shootings in houses of worship.
