If you work for a company with more than 30 people in it, then you’re in for a surprise. Effective immediately, New Jersey’s Family Leave Act will make it easier to balance income security and care for those you love.
An employee can take time off to care for a child of any age if the child is incapable of self-care.
Expanded definitions of covered family members, including sibling, grandparent, grandchild, any other individual related by blood to the employee, and any other individual that the employee shows to have a close association with the employee which is equivalent of a family relationship.
Expanded reasons for leave include foster care placement and when a family member is a victim of domestic or sexual violence.
While many of the changes are effective immediately, some changes will go into effect later in 2019.
