A fire displaced residents from two units of the Alister apartments on Monday night.
Morristown firefighters responded to Building 13 at 8:10 pm and found heavy smoke emanating from an attic above a second floor apartment, said Fire Chief Robert Flanagan.
The unit’s tenant had called 911 and escaped unharmed, the chief said. A first-floor resident also was displaced because of water damage.
It took about a half hour to knock down the fire, which appeared to be caused by an electrical problem, Flanagan said.
His men were assisted at the scene–known for decades as Jacob Ford Village–by Morristown police and the Morris Township fire department. Atlantic Ambulance and the Morris Minutemen also responded.
One of the displaced tenants is staying with family members, while Alister management temporarily is housing the other in a hotel, Flanagan said.
The call concluded a busy day in single-digit temperatures for Morristown firefighters.
On Monday morning, they battled a car fire in the DeHart Street parking garage. Around 3 pm, they responded to another car fire, this one in an office parking lot on Headley Road.
Nobody was injured in either of those fires.
