A manhole fire snarled traffic and knocked out power in some areas in Morristown on Friday morning, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 6 am, near the intersection of South Street and Madison Avenue.

Jersey Central Power and Light is on the scene, making repairs after what was determined to be an underground fire, said Michael Corcoran Jr., Morristown’s public safety director.

Some 891 JCP&L customers lost power, said Mayor Tim Dougherty. As of 9:45 am, virtually all of them were back online, according to the JCP&L website.
