From the Morristown Police:

Morristown Police are asking residents to be vigilant following the theft of “high-end” vehicle rims that took place Sunday night in the area of Ridgedale Avenue. Anyone who observed anything suspicious is asked to contact police at 973-538-2200.

Although this is an extremely rare occurrence, here are some simple steps to take to prevent yourself from becoming a victim.

1. Consider parking your vehicle in a locked garage if possible.

2. If you don’t have access to a garage, park in a heavily trafficked area or parking garage that is covered with surveillance cameras.

3. Invest in wheel and/or lug nuts that are locked with a key. While not foolproof, thieves will commonly move past your vehicle to one which is easier.

4. Turn your wheels to a sharp angle while parking. This makes it more difficult to remove lug nuts and again makes your vehicle a less desirable target.

5. Consider a vehicle alarm that has sensors for the wheels and rims.

6. Be vigilant. Report any suspicious activity to police immediately.
