New York man charged with carrying marijuana brownies in Morris Township

Morris Township Police Officer makes arrest for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

On Thursday evening, Dec. 27, 2018, at approximately 9:40 pm, Patrolman Kojo Yeboah was performing a residential patrol on Normandy Heights Road, which is in the area that has experienced recent vehicle burglaries and thefts from vehicles.

Patrolman Yeboah discovered a vehicle parked on the side of the road with its headlights on. There was one occupant in the vehicle sitting in the driver’s seat.

The officer greeted the driver and immediately detected the odor of raw marijuana. Sgt. Mart, Patrolmen Neri and VanValen and Detective Boeninghaus assisted with the investigation.

During the investigation, a search of the vehicle lead to the discovery of raw marijuana packaged for sale, hashish, drug paraphernalia, and “marijuana brownies.”

The investigation is ongoing in order to determine why the individual was in the area.

Randy Mateo, a white, Hispanic male, from New York, NY, was charged with (2) counts of third degree possession of marijuana/hashish with the intent to distribute, a third degree possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within a school zone and a fourth degree possession of marijuana.

Mr. Mateo was released on a complaint summons, pending a court date.
