UPDATE: Thursday night’s show has been cancelled because of a wintry forecast. An extra show has been added Sunday, Nov. 18, at 7 pm.
Based on the 1989 movie of the same name, this weekend’s stage presentation of Prancer is being touted as the first by a high school.
Red carpets will be rolled out for all four shows, Nov.
15-16-18, 2018. If you attend Sunday’s matinee, you can meet a real reindeer.
The critter will have to be pretty good to upstage Prancer, played by junior Julieta Quinteros (front end) and freshman Caitlyn Wagner (bringing up the rear).
Along with sophomore Carigan McGuinn — who gives a spunky performance as a young girl from a troubled home who discovers a gimpy reindeer in the backyard — they are the stars of this family-friendly fantasy.

Seniors Topher Bashant (who plays McGuinn’s brother), Michailia Monfalcone (as her best friend) and Brenna Thornton (as her aunt); and junior Nathaniel Zuluaga (playing her widower father) round out the lead roles.
Cast and crew looked confident at Wednesday’s dress rehearsal. Parents appeared a trifle more nervous, with a forecast of up to three inches of snow for Thursday’s opener. The school’s production of Anything Goes last March was bedeviled by wintry weather.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory stretching from 10 am on Thursday to Friday at 7 am. Mixed precipitation could include 1 to 3 inches of snow, and one-tenth of an inch of ice, as temperatures flirt with the freezing mark.
‘Prancer’ showtimes are 7 pm on
Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 2 pm and 7 pm on Sunday. Tickets are $8-$15. Morristown High School is at 50 Early St.
