The Morris County Sheriff’s CrimeStoppers program is offering a reward for information that helps authorities identify a man suspected of “numerous package thefts” in Morris Township on the afternoon of Nov. 1, 2018.
Township police reported on Thursday that the suspect stole a package from a home in the Harter Road area, and replaced it with an empty package stolen from the Skyline Drive vicinity.
Since that announcement, five more package thefts have been reported, using the same technique, authorities said.
Police have added a surveillance video to photos of the suspect and his vehicle, believed to be a white Acura TL–possibly a 2006 or 2007 model.
Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 973-COP-CALL (tips can be left anonymously) or Detective Boeninghaus at (973) 326-7486.
With the holiday season approaching, Morris Township police offered these tips to prevent package thefts:
- Customize your deliveries. Most companies have this option. You can change the time and location of the delivery.
- Consider an alternate destination. When you order something online, consider sending the package to your workplace or to a family member, friend, or neighbor who is home during the day to accept delivery.
- Request a signature. Many packages today are sent without requiring a signature for delivery. If you’re shipping something of high value – or you just want to be sure the items aren’t left unattended – you can require a signature for packages to be released. Only the shipper can make this request.
- Leave special instructions. Ask delivery companies to leave packages at the rear of your residence or on the side of the house by the garage for example.
