The College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J., once again garnered a ranking of “Best Ethnic Diversity” colleges by U.S. News & World Report. The annual “Best Colleges” list includes CSE as one of the top 15 most ethnically diverse in the Regional Universities – North, making it one of only three private New Jersey schools in that category.
The listing identifies colleges where students are most likely to encounter undergraduates from an ethnic group other than their own by factoring in the proportion of minority students and the overall mix of groups in the student body. U.S. News & World Report also listed CSE among the top overall Regional Universities in the North category.
In addition, Washington Monthly named CSE among the top 100 schools on both “Best Master’s Universities” (#98 out of 695 nationwide) and “Best Bang for the Buck – North” (#38 out of 400 in Northeast region).
For these lists, Washington Monthly ranks four-year schools (national universities, liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate colleges, and master’s universities) based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories. Those categories are: social mobility (recruiting and graduating low-income students), research (producing cutting-edge scholarship and Ph.D.s) and service (encouraging students to give something back to their country).
For the “Best Bang for the Buck” list, Washington Monthly also uses reported graduation rate, as well as compares the reported graduation rate to a predicted rate based on the percentage of Pell recipients and first-generation students, the percentage of students receiving student loans, the admit rate, the racial/ethnic and gender makeup of the student body, the number of students (overall and full-time), and whether a college is primarily residential.

In August, CSE was third among private schools in New Jersey on Money magazine’s “Best Colleges in 2018” list and ranked in the top 100 nationwide for adult student programs and outcomes by Washington Monthly earlier this year.
