September Song at Opera at Florham

Opera at Florham opens the 2018-2019 season with September Song: Afternoon at the Met and Evening on Broadway this Sunday, September 23 at 2pm. Three young professional vocalists, all multiple prize winners in international vocal competitions from the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia, bring a touch of The Met to New Jersey. Soprano Meryl Dominguez, bass-baritone Eric Delagrange and tenor Matthew White sing arias from the upcoming season of the Metropolitan Opera – the duet “O soave fanciulla” from La Bohème, “O Isis und Osiris” from Magic Flute, “Sempre libera” from La Traviata among others.

Following intermission (with tasty light refreshments!), pianist Mary Pinto plays cabaret-style piano tunes; and, Meryl, Eric and Matthew continue with Broadway melodies that were influenced by the operas, including “Somewhere” from West Side Story, “Someone to Watch Over Me” from Oh, Kay! and “Some Enchanted Evening” from South Pacific.

Opera at FLorham is thrilled to have Meryl Dominguez return after her charismatic appearance last season. Notes Meryl, “This concert will be especially wonderful for opera newcomers. They can dip their toes into the music without driving in and buying full tickets to the Met this season. It is a wide sampling of styles and will leave everyone with something to enjoy.”

Eric Delagrange is joining Opera at FLorham for the first time. “I’m very excited to sing my first concert with Opera at Florham! I’ve only heard great things about the organization and can’t wait to be a part of it. My favorite selection has to be “Some Enchanted Evening” from South Pacific. I’m such a fan of this music. I don’t get my feet wet into musical theatre often, so when the opportunity arrives, I really have fun with it!”
This year, Opera at FLorham is making opera more accessible by offering narration by music educator Lou Barrella. Lou will offer insight into the background of the operas and arias.
