A heat advisory is in effect from noon today, Aug. 28, 2018, through 8 pm on Wednesday, Aug. 29.

It’s going to be a real scorcher–temps in the mid-90s and a heat index that could reach 104, according to the National Weather Service.

Morristown residents can seek relief between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm both days in the senior center at town hall, on the third floor, 200 South St. Between 4:30 pm and 8:30 am, the Morristown Firehouse will double as a cooling station, second floor, 161 Speedwell Ave.

Safety tips from the Morristown Police:

Morris County has been placed under a Heat Advisory beginning Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 12:00 PM through Wednesday, Aug. 29 at 8:00 PM.

Temperatures will reach a high of 90 today with a heat index up to 96 degrees. Tuesday’s temperatures will reach a high around 93 with a heat index up to 100-105 degrees. Wednesday will reach a high in the middle 90’s with a heat index of 100-105 degrees. The heat wave is expected to continue into Thursday with temperatures in the lower 90’s and a heat index reaching into the triple digits.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A Heat Advisory means that a period of excessively hot humid weather is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which there is an increased risk for heat related health issues. Drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air-conditioned environment, if possible.

Be sure to:

  • Check on elderly relatives and neighbors.
  • Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
  • If possible, reschedule strenuous activities to the early morning or late evening hours.
  • Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
  • Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.
  • To reduce your risk while working outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in a shaded or air conditioned environment.
  • Anyone overcome by the heat should be moved to a cool shaded location.
  • Heat stroke is an emergency…call 9 1 1.

Stay cool and Be safe!
