Take a uke for a test drive. Get spooked, early-20th century style. Party like summer will never end.

Greater Morristown makes all this possible, and more, this weekend.

THURSDAY, AUG. 23, 2018:

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Morristown presents the 1922 silent horror classic Nosferatu at 7 pm, with live organ accompaniment by award-winning organist Joshua Stafford. Admission: $10 adults; youths 18 and under, free. (Film may not be suitable for young children.) At South Street and Miller Road.

The Mayo Performing Arts Center Presents Frontline Arts – a free presentation of spoken word, poetry and more, by veterans who are also artists– at the 70 South Gallery. The event runs from 7:30 pm to 9 pm, with wine, cheese and goodies from The Artist Baker. At 70 South St., Morristown.

The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey in Madison presents Noël Coward’s comedy Blithe Spirit, directed by Victoria Mack. Tickets start at $49. At 36 Madison Ave., 973-408-5600.  


FRIDAY, AUG. 24:

Morning Yoga with Munah Hayes returns to the Morristown & Township Library at 9:30 am. Free. Bring a yoga mat. At One Miller Road, Morristown.

The Woman’s Club of Morristown hosts a preview of its weekend rummage sale, from 6 pm to 9 pm. Admission: $10. Get first crack at antiques, jewelry, housewares, toys, and more. Proceeds benefit the club, its charities, and maintenance of its historic home, the Condict house. At 51 South St., 973-539-0467.

Morristown’s Mayo Performing Arts Center  presents a free end-of-summer party, starting outside the theater at 6:15 pm with  MAMA D and the Vexations from 6:15 pm to 7:15 on the Plaza in front of the Theater. At 7:30 pm the festivities move inside for a concert by the jazz fusion band  Project Grand Slam!  There will be popcorn, and local craft beers, too. At 100 South St.

The Folk Project’s fifth annual New Jersey Uke Fest  kicks off at 7 pm in the Ukrainian American Cultural Center of New Jersey in Whippany. An outdoor sing-along by the Morristown Uke Jam precedes a 7:30 pm concert by Abe Lagrimas Jr. and Gracie Terzian, followed by a strum-along. SATURDAY, AUG. 25:

The New Jersey Uke Fest continues in Whippany with a day of workshops–registration opens at 8:15 am, sessions start at 9:15 am–capped by a 7:30 pm concert featuring The Aloha Boys with Alan Distajo and Victoria Vox.  Tickets: Concert $25, Workshops $102, Workshops and concert $117. The Morris Plains Farmers Market is back, from 9 am to 2 pm every Saturday through Oct. 6, 2018, on Merchant’s Block, next to the Model Railroad Club.

SUNDAY, AUG. 26:

The Morristown Farmers Market is back, at 8:30 am every Sunday through Nov. 18. At Lot 10, behind the Post Office, between Dumont Place and Morris Street. Presented by the Morristown Partnership.

The Woman’s Club of Morristown concludes its rummage sale, from 10 am to 2 pm. Admission: Free. Please see Friday entry for details.

The fifth annual New Jersey Uke Fest concludes with a free jam session on the historic Morristown Green at 10:30 am. All are welcome! Bring an instrument, or a lawn chair, or both. Sometimes pros from the festival join the fun.
